Looking to diversify its primetime weekly lineup, CBS has ordered a pilot for a cop comedy titled “Brothered Up,” created by Mark Gross (“Mike & Molly”) who has and overall deal with CBS TV Studios.

In the potential series, a pair of police officers — one African American, the other Pakistani — are partnered up to patrol the streets of Detroit, Michigan.

The full description for “Brothered Up” reads: An emotionally guarded African American cop gets partnered with an emotionally available Pakistani cop and are forced to find a way to connect as they patrol a Detroit neighborhood.

A take on the age-old buddy-cop sub-genre, except, this time, instead of the typical interracial pairing of one black and one white man, this one will star 2 characters of color. Should this go to series, it’ll certainly be a curio, especially for CBS. Let’s see how it’s handled – writing, character development, themes tackled, how they are tackled, casting, how edgy the humor might be, etc.

Gross will serve as creator and executive producer.

No ETA at this time.
