Whoopi Goldberg made her directorial debut this year with a documentary about Moms Mabley, the influential, pioneering stand-up comedian. The film, which Goldberg raised funding for on Kickstarter, premiered at Tribeca as “Moms Mabley: I Got Somethin’ to Tell You,” though it’ll make its television debut on HBO on Monday, November 18th at 9pm as “Whoopi Goldberg Presents Moms Mabley,” presumably to further emphasize the famous face behind the camera.
The film includes interviews with Goldberg, Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphy, Kathy Griffin and others reflecting on Mabley’s comedy and her legacy as a female African American comedian.
