Last week, we reported that Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson is teaming up with Adam Sandler on his new movie Sandy Wexler, the third project in his four-picture deal with Netflix that includes The Ridiculous Six and The Do-Over. Today we have word that the cast just keeps getting bigger and bigger, with frequent Adam Sandler collaborators Kevin James, Terry Crews, Rob Schneider, Colin Quinn and Nick Swardson coming aboard, along with New Girl star Lamorne Morris. The most interesting casting addition, though, is former talk show host Arsenio Hall, appearing in his first movie in seven years.
The story follows Adam Sandler as the title character, a talent manager in Los Angeles who represent a variety of different clients who are on the “fringes” of the entertainment industry. He’s put to the ultimate test when he discovers a talented singer named Courtney Clarke (Jennifer Hudson) at an amusement park. No details have been given for Arsenio Hall or any of the other supporting actors’ characters quite yet, but the movie is set in the 1990s.
The Do-Over director Steven Brill will return to the helm for Sandy Wexler, working from a script by Paul Sado, Dan Bulla and Adam Sandler. Adam Sandler is producing through his Happy Madison Productions banner along with Allen Covert. Barry Bernardi and Tim Herlihy are set to executive produce.
Production is slated to begin on August 2, with the movie slated to premiere on Netflix sometime next year. Nick Swardson has appeared in both of Sandler’s Netflix films, The Ridiculous Six and The Do-Over, while Terry Crews appeared in The Ridiculous Six. Kevin James, Colin Quinn and Rob Schneider have collaborated with Adam Sandler, although this will be both Lamorne Morris and Arsenio Hall’s first time working with the actor. Lamorne Morris most recently starred in Barbershop: The Next Cut, along with his starring role as Winston on New Girl.
