ABC has given a pilot commitment that is cast-contingent, to an untitled comedy about a struggling rapper who runs for mayor of a city in order to promote his music, and ends up winning. The project hails from “Hamilton” co-star Daveed Diggs, writer Jeremy Bronson, as well as Jamie Tarses, Scott Stuber and Bluegrass FanFare production company.

Bronson will write and executive produce the project, with Diggs (who recently had recurring roles on Netflix’s “The Get Down” and ABC’s “Black-ish”) executive producing (he apparently will not act in the project; at least, the announcement doesn’t mention that he will).

James Griffiths (who directed the pilot for the ABC’s “Black-ish”) is attached to direct and also executive produce.

Over the summer, Diggs booked his first film role in the Lionsgate drama “Wonder.” Directed by Stephen Chbosky, “Wonder” is an adaptation of author R. J. Palacio’s children’s book of the same name, which Jacob Tremblay and Julia Roberts are also attached to star in.

“Hamilton” has certainly been good to a few members of its initial key cast who have now left the Broadway show, and continue to rack up screen projects.

Deadline was first to report the news of Diggs’ involvement in the untitled rapper-turned-mayor project.
